Meet JOSH

Joshua Williams was still working full-time hourly when he started his medical manufacturer business.

Williams, 32, was born and raised in Cincinnati and went to the University of Cincinnati for pre-med, which was his first introduction to the health care industry. He wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon.

Williams said he has always been entrepreneurial, and when he was working in a hospital, he started talking with his coworkers about the medical supply industry.

In February 2014, he founded SurgiHealth solutions, a Cincinnati-based company that sells a variety of products to hospitals. Products include brushes and other cleaning supplies for disinfecting medical equipment in hospitals.

How was SurgiHealth Founded?

SurgiHealth Solutions is a manufacturer and distributor of high-quality medical supplies. SurgiHealth Solutions started out as an idea while working at a local Cincinnati medical facility.

Why is Cincinnati a good place for minority-owned businesses?

The amount of resources that have become available in recent years have been career transforming. Once you know you’re serious with what you want to do, the mentors, connections, and just overall assistance from organizations like the Cincinnati Regional Chamber, African American Chamber, CMBC, and Minority Business Accelerator have been amazing.

You need a support system to start your business. How is the CMBC providing that support? The resources, access to mentors and connections that would take years to happen organically if at I’m grateful to be surrounded by individuals who genuinely want me to be as successful as possible.

What is your biggest dream for your company?

From the beginning the goal was to create a reputable, trustworthy, honest, and successful company and create a legacy for my I’ve always wanted to do something that impacted people all over in a positive way, and that’s what we do every day.

What is your mission/purpose?

To create, to innovate. I love and embrace change and decided that I wanted to take an industry and do something different, do it my way and make it work. To know that anything is possible and prove that to myself and others.

What does your company mean to the community?

From what I’ve been told it means possibilities. My focus was to become a foundation for individuals after me with similar dreams to now have a resource who’s “been there and done that ” in a sense so I can help guide, mentor, and pay it forward to my communities entrepreneurs of tomorrow.

What advice do you have for other minority business entrepreneurs?

No matter what it is that you want to do, always be willing to put in the work, be open-minded, be resourceful, be coachable and teachable, remain focused, and most importantly, have patience.

You could have opened your business elsewhere. Why Cincinnati?

Cincinnati is home. I’m located in a very good region to start the type of business that I I’m all about being home-grown and creating opportunities for others, knowing where we come from and what we’ve accomplished.

What legacy do you hope to leave behind?

I didn’t have the easiest upbringing and understood life struggles and challenges at an early age. I’m a father now, so to create something tangible to fuel the dreams of my children and their children and so on is what I hope to leave behind, for them to know I took a chance to make a brighter future for everyone.

“I always liked the challenge of doing something unknown’”
